Welcome aboard. BirdDog helps you identify sales opportunities the moment they emerge by surfacing meaningful buying signals. This quick guide walks you through your initial setup—so you can start seeing value today.


Quick Setup Overview

Get started with three core steps:

  1. Upload Your Accounts (about 5 minutes)
  2. Create Your First Signals (10–15 minutes)
  3. Take Your First Action (under 5 minutes)

Once complete, you’ll be positioned to engage prospects with timely, relevant insights.


Step 1: Upload Accounts

Time: under 5 minutes | Outcome: BirdDog begins tracking account activity

To begin, upload a list of the company domains you want to monitor.

Example:

apple.com, meta.com, lululemon.com

Instructions:
1. Click Accounts on the left navigation bar
2. Click Add Accounts
3. Paste your domain list into the input field
4. Choose Master under Select a list
5. Click Submit

BirdDog will immediately begin scanning those accounts for relevant activity.


Step 2: Create Signals

Time: 10–15 minutes | Outcome: Real-time buying cues start appearing

What are Signals?
Signals are cues such as funding announcements, leadership changes, job postings, or technology adoption that suggest a company may be ready to buy.

Instructions:
1. Click Signals on the left navigation bar
2. Click Add Signal
3. Open the Signal Library
4. Click Use on a Signal template that fits your needs
5. Edit the Question to reflect what you want to monitor
6. Add a Title for internal reference
7. Click Apply to All
8. Repeat until you’ve created 6–8 Signals

💡 Tip: Focus on signals that align with your sales strategy or ideal customer profile.


Step 3: Setup Farsight

Time: under 5 minutes | Outcome: Recommend new accounts based on your existing list

What is Farsight?
Farsight provides recommended accounts you’re not actively tracking yet, based on lookalikes of your current prospect list and uploaded signals.

Instructions:
1. Click the Farsight page
2. Click Adjust Settings
3. Select the list(s) you want to turn on
- Note: make sure you’ve uploaded a few accounts first so the system knows what type you’re targeting
4. Choose a Farsight mode: Smart Recommendations or Manual List Upload
5. Click Upload

Farsight will provide recommendations each morning.


Step 4: Take Your First Action / Helpful Tips

Time: under 5 minutes | Outcome: Begin using insights to guide outreach

Now that your accounts are uploaded and signals are in place, you’re ready to act.

Ways to use insights:
- Send a personalized email referencing a Signal
- Make a targeted cold call based on new information
- Tag or prioritize the account in your CRM

- Continue refining your signals
- Check BirdDog regularly or enable alerts

Advanced Setup and Pro Tips

Email Templates

Let BirdDog automatically write personalized outreach using signals and your messaging style.

Instructions:
- Navigate to Settings > Email Templates
- Upload past examples of successful outreach
- Use placeholders like <mention funding> or <highlight launch> to automate content
- Assign templates to Signals for dynamic email generation


CRM Integration

Connect BirdDog with your CRM to:
- Push signal data into account records
- Track workflows automatically
- Use signal engagement as a trigger for sequences


Google Calendar Integration: Pre-Meeting Research Briefs

BirdDog can send you a tailored research report before every sales meeting.

What You’ll Get:
A digest of the latest signal activity, news, and context for the company you’re meeting with.

Setup Instructions:
1. Navigate to Settings > Integrations
2. Click Connect Calendar
3. Log in with your Google account and authorize access
4. Choose which meetings should trigger research briefs
5. Select how far in advance you’d like reports sent


Troubleshooting Tips

  • Signal not triggering? Check that the account is uploaded and the Signal question is clear.
  • Emails not generating? Make sure your email template is linked to the correct Signal.
  • No data yet? It may take a few minutes for new Signals and insights to populate.
